THEME: DO YOU BELIEVE THAT GOD CAN STILL DO IT

Greetings beloved people of God. I welcome you to "My Catholic Homily Digest". On this fourt day of December in which we celebrate the memorial of St. John Damascene, I wish to reflect with us on the theme: " Do you Believe that God can still Do it". Beloved, one of the tragedies of life is to give up on any hope for a better future based on the circumstances of the present moment. He who clings to hope, no matter how glimmer it is, would have every reason to continue trying and pushing. Hence, it is often said that, "winners never quit, and quiters never win". I know that often times, the conditions that we  find ourselves could be so discouraging to a godless mind. I know that most of us have been looking for job for ages and there seems to be no hope yet, some of our ladies are getting to the age of menopause yet there is no suitor in view, some of us have been praying for the fruit of the womb for many years, yet there is no answer, some of us have been trusting God for healing over a particular illness, yet the situation is not getting any better, some of us have been praying and making attempts to desist from a particular negative habit and behaviour yet, we keep sinking into the same pool over again. Some of us have been trusting, praying and struggling for one thing or the other, yet there seems to be no answer in view. The question now is: Do we keep trusting endlessly or just accept our fate?

Child of God, in the Gospel reading of today, Matt. 9:27-31, the two blind men, did not give up on their conditions even after calling and following Jesus for several hours, days, weeks, months and even years. Bible recorded that after calling and shouting at Jesus to take pity on them to no avail, they followed him to his house, still hoping that he would at least have mercy on them and remedy their age long blindness. And eventually, when it seemed as if Christ had ignored them, he turned to them and said: Do you believe I can do this? They said, ‘Sir, we do.’ Then he touched their eyes saying, ‘Your faith deserves it, so let this be done for you.’ And their sight returned.

Beloved, your situation will not be different from the testimony of these two blind men, because our God is still a merciful Father, for he has not changed. Listen, the Greek word for mercy, is 'ELEEO'. And according to the Greek understanding, it literally means an active sorrow at heart, such that one is moved to help another out of pity. So, beloved, God is not just merciful, he is also interested, willing and capable to remedy our situation. Just that he always wishes to test how enduring our faith can be. So, do not give up, keep knocking, pushing, praying,  calling, shouting, and struggling and I pray that like the two blind men of today's Gospel reading, our Lord JESUS CHRIST, would in no distant time, turn to you and grant all your longings and prayers. God bless you.

Do not be afraid for you will be remembered in my priestly prayers throughout this month. God bless you
