THEME: DON'T FALL BY THE WAY

Greetings beloved people of God. I welcome you to "My Catholic Homily Digest". On this Eleventh day of March, I wish to reflect with you on the theme: " Don't Fall By The Way". Beloved in Christ, experience has shown that, the level of energy exerted at the beginning of any project or endeavour is not always sustained throughout its duration. Thus, must people tend to put in lots of energy and zeal whenever something new is about starting, only for them to either fail to continue with such energy or they completely give up along the line. I could recall that during my early years as a seminarian, I had put in lots of energy at my studies, at my prayers, at the labour ground, at sports and every other formation program of my priestly training. However, am not sure whether I sustained thesame energy throughout the period of my formation. Though, since after my priestly ordination, the energy has been rejuvenated, especially here in my present mission area.

Dearest, in the first reading of today, Jer. 7:23-28, God expressed His worries and disappointments over how the people of Israel do not consistently follow His laws and decrees right to to end. They make promises which they only keep for a short while, before relapsing. They enter a covenant with God, only for them to break their words with time. They listen to the words of the prophets and promise repentance, only for them to return back to their evil ways. They quickly get remorse for their sins, and ask for mercy, only for them to commit a more henious one in the near future. Hear what God says about them:

"But they have not listened to me, have not paid attention; they have grown stubborn and behaved worse than their ancestors".

Child of God, the problem is not that the people do not listen to the voice God. They do, but they only listen and obey God for a short while before falling back to their old self. Is that not the case with many of us today? How often do we promise to change our ways, only for us to get worse than we were before. How often do we promise to be more prayerful, only for us to relapse after a few days or weeks. How often do we promise to avoid or stop a particular sinful habit, only for us to go back to it after a few days of trying. How often do we makes vows and commitments to God, only for us to break out very word. See baa!!! we no dey try at all .... But God has not given up on us and He will not for though we may be unfaithful, but He is always faithful, for He cannot disown His own.

Oh that today you would listen to his voice harden not your hearts (Ps.95:7-8).

LET US PRAY : Lord Jesus, help me to remain faithful to my promises and never to get tired or fall by the way...

The Lord be with you....... and with your Spirit.

May Almighty God bless you in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit ....Amen
