Fr. Emmanuel Megwara, MSP - Homily for Thursday Week 31 Ordinary time - November 5, 2020

DATE : 5/11/2020, Thursday of the 31st Week in Ordinary Time (A) EVENT : Mass of the Weekday COLOUR : GREEN READINGS : Phil.3:3-8; Resp. Psalm 104:2-7; Luke 15:1-10. THEME: PERSEVERE IN HOLINESS EVEN WHEN YOU FALL SEVERAL TIMES Greetings beloved people of God. I welcome you to "My Catholic Homily Digest". I wish to reflect with us on the theme, " Persevere in Holiness even when you Fall Several times". Beloved, it is often said that "winners never quit and quitters never win". This is true if we consider the many stories of successful individuals in the different fields of life today. Especially the many times scientists have to carry out a particular experiment before they arrive at the accurate solution. One of the greatest deceptions of the enemy is to make Christians believe that holiness is impossible to achieve, hence there is no point trying. And unfortunately, many of us have subscribed to this falsehood and lies of the Devil. Beloved, the call of Jesus in Matt 5:48, and St. Peter in 1Pet. 1:16, to be holy as our heavenly Father is holy, is not a definite call to be attained at a particular point. Rather, it is a constant invitation to consciously make efforts at holiness until we depart from this veil of tears. Remember that God cannot command the impossible. So, it is because He knows that we have the capacity for holiness that He commanded us to be holy. Just like St. Paul boosted of his perfect holiness according to the Jewish law in the first reading of today, Phil 3:3-8, I challenge us to also persevere in making every effort to be holy in Christ. And just like the Shepherd and the woman in today's Gospel, who never gave up until they have each found the lost sheep and the lost drachma respectively, let us never give up in our desire to be holy. Child of God, hear me, even when we fall badly, so much so that we get wounded, disfigured, and entangled by a repeated sinful habit, let us never get tired to picking up ourselves, confessing to our priest and continue on our struggle. Remember that Jesus also fell badly several times, under the heavy weight of the cross, but he always pulled himself up and continued staggering forward. I pray God to give us the grace of final perseverance and never to remain fallen in our sinful conditions...God bless you #End Sars, #End Political Oppression #End Bad Governance. Oh that today you would listen to his voice harden not your hearts (Ps.95:7-8) LET US PRAY : Lord Jesus, may I never doubt your love nor take for granted the mercy you have shown to me. Fill me with your grace that I may keep making every effort at holiness...Amen @ Fada Emmanuel Nnamdi Megwara, MSP. ⛪
