THEME: THOUGH SO MANY, WE ARE ONE

Greetings beloved people of God. I welcome you to "My Catholic Homily Digest". We shall be reflecting on the theme "Though so many, we are one" because, today being the 1st of October is a very remarkable day for all Nigerians. It was on this day 60 (sixty) years ago that we took on the nature of nationhood, granting us an independence sovereignty. As I reflect on this reality, I thank God for preserving and keeping us together as a nation, despite the many ills we have and are still recording. The celebration of  today comes with lots of mixed feelings as many people think it is not wise to celebrate because there is nothing to celebrate according to their own judgments.

However Beloved, the reason for celebrating this day for me is premised on the fact that Scriptures says: "In good time and in bad times, we should give praise and thanks to God". Although we have had very low moments as a country, but we are still pulling through together. More so, the readings of today should be a great source of encouragement to us. For as the prophet Isaiah and St. Paul in his letter to the Ephesians said, a time is coming when God shall raise up a new ruler for us, a  leader that will ensure justice and equity, that will sanitize our corrupt and decaying systems, a leader that will empathise with the poor and lowly, a ruler that will deal with the evil doers according to how their actions deserve, a leader that will shun all forms of tribalism, religious fanaticism, disregard for rule of law and that will bring about an improvement in the quality of life, education, power, hospital, road, and other social amenities for our common good. A leader who will give us a sense of belonging, no matter our existential or ancestral extraction. A leader that will unite us as one though many we are. A leader that will make Northerners to feel safe in the West, and the Easterners to be safe in the Muslim North.

As a priest and as a prophet of God, I believe the words of God so strongly, for whatever God has said and revealed, He will bring about. So my beloved and fellow good citizens of Nigeria, let us join with the Church to pray and commend our country into the maternal care of Our Lady, who is seen and celebrated today as the Queen and Patroness of  Nigeria. For as Mary and Joseph protected the Child Jesus from the enemy (Herod), who wanted to attack and destroy Him in the Gospel reading of today, she may also protect our country from everyone who has a hidden agenda to destroy this country. Please say one Hail Mary and One Our Father for our dear country NIGERIA. God bless you.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE TO ALL MY FELLOW NIGERIANS AND NEW MONTH TO ALL

Oh that today you would listen to his voice harden not your hearts (Ps.95:7-8)

LET US PRAY : Lord Jesus, you created this beautiful country to be our mother, help us to make it a better place for all of us to live in....Amen
