 THEME: CHOOSE YOUR VANITY WISELY

Greetings beloved people of God. I welcome you to "My Catholic Homily Digest". Today, I want to reflect with you on the theme, "Choose your Vanity Wisely". Recently, I saw a write up which read: wealth is vanity and poverty is vanity as well, so choose your vanity wise". The irony of life is that we are created to survive, and to survive healthily and happily, we must depend on the resources of the world to provide our daily needs. But this we must do wisely.

In the first reading of today, we are told that all our struggles on earth are vanity thus, wisdom comes in recognising the struggle that matters the most. Beloved, the rich resources of life have existed before we came into being, and will continue long after we are gone. So, Scriptures warns us that "what shall it profit a man if he gains the entire worldly riches for just a moment, and suffers the lost of his soul for eternity" (Mark 8:36). The thing is that God placed the resources in the world for us to use them to better our lives and the lives of those around us.  But the tragedy of life comes when these resources become obstacles inhibiting our full flourishing and giving vitality to our soul. The soul is the substratum of life, it is what endures after the mortal frame (our physical body), has been destroyed. We must pay attention to it because it is the only thing which is not vanity.

Child of God, we need to focus on what really matters in life, namely building a relationship with God and neighbour through the resources at our disposal. Beloved, let us stop chasing shadows, stop accumulating wealth which other might misuse in our stead, Stop the deceiving and killing. Like the Psalmist tells  us today, let us realise the shortness of our lives and make good hay with each resources that God has decorated our paths with. Let our resources help to build bridges and ladders rather than walls of enmity. God bless you

Oh that today you would listen to his voice harden not your hearts (Ps.95:7-8)

LET US PRAY : Lord Jesus, increase my eagerness to do your will and help me to grow in the knowledge of the things that really matters....Amen
