THEME: HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED TO BE CONTENTED

Greetings beloved people of God. I welcome you to "My Catholic Homily Digest".  As the Church celebrates the memorial of St. Pio today, I want to reflect with you on the theme, "How Much do you Need to be Contented". There are always two extremes to be avoided in life: excess and deficiency. Hence, Aristotle the philosopher would say: virtue lies in the middle.

The author of today's first reading tells God not to give him poverty, and not to make him rich either. For him, poverty and riches are two extremes which lead one away from God. Being rich and full can blot the mind and  make one forget or deny God's sovereignty. Also, being poor and constantly in need can drive one to engage in sinful and degrading actions just to feed. Thus, what the first reading recommends to God is simply to give us the means and grace to satisfy our daily needs of bread, shelter, clothing and holiness of life. This is exactly what Christ assures His disciple of when he commanded them not to carry any material things as they embark on their apostolic work. Lest they think that there own hands have provided the things they need.

Beloved, God knows exactly what we need and He will surely provide us with it, but not before the appointed time. The problem is that we do not trust God enough, that is why we steal, deceive, cheat, defraud, lie, kill in order to accumulate riches, in preparation for rainy days, at the detriment of others. Indeed, How much do we really need to be contented in this life. Life is like a stream, where we come to fetch water each time we are thirsty. The problem is that some of us will want to channel or carry the entire stream to our house if possible. Of which we can't finish even in a million life time. I pray God to give us the grace to recognise what really matters the most in life and to go after it.

Oh that today you would listen to his voice harden not your hearts (Ps.95:7-8)

LET US PRAY : Lord Jesus,  free me from all other attachments that I may joyfully pursue the things of your heavenly kingdom. May I witness to others the joy of the Gospel both in word and deed....Amen

HAPPY MIDWEEK BELOVED (BARKA DA LARABA)
