 THEME: GRACE COMPLEMENTS HUMAN EFFORTS

Greetings beloved people of God. I welcome you to "My Catholic Homily Digest". On this Nineth day of December, I wish to reflect with us on the theme: " Grace Complements Human Efforts". Beloved, there is a popular saying that "grace builds on nature". This means that, grace cannot operate where human efforts frustrates it. The Church believes that the divine nature cannot supplant the human nature, rather it helps it to flourish. Thus, God cannot do for man what man can do for himself, following the principle of subsidiarity. But unfortunately , some left wing protestant influence, tend to over emphasise the role and importance of grace more than human effort. We must note that human efforts must precede grace, for it is human nature that grace comes to assists or complements. For grace cannot act in a vacuum.

In the first reading of today, taken from the book of the prophet Isaiah, we are told in verse 31, that,  "those who hope in the Lord renew their strength, they put out wings like eagles. They run and do not grow weary, walk and never tire". Child of God, notice that Bible says that they first of all run, using human efforts, before grace comes to renew their strength so that they do not fall, faint or get tired. So, if you are praying for grace upon your life, if you are asking God to help you overcome a particular habit or sin, if you are praying for God's favour and if you trusting God to turn things around for you, do not lie fallow, do not stand still, do not while away your energy. Rather, get busy, be involved in something no matter how small, let God see you making efforts, then He will pour out his grace to complete your efforts and make your little efforts to yield abundant results. Remember that if you run alone it is called RACE, but if you run with God it is called GRACE.

Do not be afraid for you will be remembered in my priestly prayers throughout this month. God bless you
