THEME: BE PATIENT, THE LORD WILL REMEMBER YOU
Greetings beloved people of God. I welcome you to "My Catholic Homily Digest". On this Eighteenth day of March, I wish to reflect with you on the theme: " Be Patient, The Lord Will Remember You". Beloved in Christ, one of the the most difficult virtues to practice and sustain is patient, especially when one is not sure of how the situation will turn out. Many of us want quick solutions. We want answers and we want them now. We want to be attended to before others, even when we came after them. This is very true if we consider the Nigerian situation, how impatient each driver could be, trying to beat the traffic or the queue in a holdup. This is also true, when we consider how people jump queues in public gatherings, especially when the available resources is scarce. Often times, when I listen to people's prayers, I get the impression that they want God to immediately grant them their prayers as soon as they finish praying. As if God is a magician or their errand boy. Impatient can cost you what a few seconds patient would have saved you from. You can ask drivers who have had an accident before.
Child of God, in the first reading of today, Exo. 32:7-14, we are told that the people of Israel apostatised. Now, the reason for their apostasy was because, after Moses brought them up from Egypt, he went up to the mountain to be with the Lord and to seek further directions from Him, and so, he stayed quite a while with the Lord up on the mountain. So, the people grew impatient with waiting for Moses, not knowing what had become of him on the mountain. The most annoying part was that they did not only grow impatient with Moses, they also forgot all the wonders that God had done for them. And they turned into worshiping a molten calf, whom they believe would save them. And just about then, Moses returned from the mountain. If only they were a little Patience, God would not have blazed His anger in them.
Dearest, one thing we should know is that God takes His time to perfect His plans in our lives. He does not act by impulse. He is not spontaneous. His calculation of time is different from ours. He allows certain delays and mistakes to happen, to eager teach us a lesson or to bring about a greater good. Thus, just like Hab. 2:3, assures us, let us learn to wait for the Lord. Let us cultivate the virtue of patience. Let us resist the push to abandon God and do it our way. Let us learn to trust God and believe that at last, things will work out for our good. Never you boycott God to seek for solutions elsewhere. Never you allow your impatience to arise the wrath of God upon you. Never allow impatience to lead you into evil ways and regrettable acts. Always remember that God's Time is the best.
Oh that today you would listen to his voice harden not your hearts (Ps.95:7-8).
LET US PRAY : Lord Jesus, give me patient and the grace to trust in you and remain calm even when I do not understand what seems to be happening.
The Lord be with you....... and with your Spirit.
May Almighty God bless you in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit ....Amen
